Cherry Dumplings

Cherry Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
dash of salt
1/2 cup cherry juice
1 1/2 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups pie cherries

Dumplings:
1 cup sifted flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
dash of salt
1/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons margarine Sauce:
Combine all ingredients in order given in heavy skillet or saucepan. Simmer gently about 5 minutes.

Dumplings:
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut or rub in butter or margarine. Add vanilla extract to milk. Add milk to flour mixture and stir to make a thick batter. Drop by teaspoon into cherry sauce. Cover, steam for 20 minutes. Serve dumplings warm with cherry sauce.

Walnut Harvest Cake

1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups chopped apples
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 cups flour
3 eggs
1 cup oil
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts Cream sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients, mix with mixer for 3 minutes. Bake at 350 degree for 1 hour or until done.

Sour Cream Cookies

3/4 cup melted shortening
2 cups brown sugar
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 eggs beaten
1 pint sour cream
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped raisins Combine sugar, salt, and spices. Add sour cream, eggs, and shortening. Beat well, add dry ingredients. Add nuts and raisins last. Bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Moist Devils Food Cake

2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 c flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs beaten
1 cup of milk plus 1 tsp vinegar
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of boiling water Preheat oven to 325
Combine sugar and cocoa. Add eggs, vanilla, and vegetable oil. Mix well. Alternate adding flour and water/milk and mixing.

Pour into greased pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Chocolate Potato Cake

1 cup shortening or butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs beaten
3 oz. baker chocolate
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup mashed potatoes
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon soda
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup nuts Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add melted chocolate and potatoes. Alternately add dry ingredients and butter milk. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Sugar Cookies

2 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Orange Julius

1 can of frozen orange juice
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
12 ice cubes
1 teaspoon vanilla Put all ingredients except the ice cubes in the blender.blend it. then add 2-3 cube at a time blending until done

Carmel Popcorn Balls

2 cups brown sugar
1 can eagle brand milk
1 cup corn syrup
1 cube margarine
popcorn Pop popcorn, set aside. Boil brown sugar and corn syrup, add milk, boil again, add margarine, cook to soft ball stage. Pour over popcorn. Let cool, shape into balls.

Raisin Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 eggs well beaten
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup raisins
2 1/2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla Cream sugar with shortening and peanut butter. Add eggs, raisins, vanilla, and milk. Mix well. Add dry ingredients, mix. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes.

Carmel Candy

4 cups sugar
1 dash of salt
2 cups cream
1 cup nuts Note: 1 1/2 cups canned milk, 1/2 cup milk and 1 table margarine can be substituted for cream.
Caramelize 3/4 cup of sugar (Heat on medium, stirring constantly until brown, watch closely). Add cream, stir until melted. Add the rest of the sugar and salt. Cook to soft ball stage. Cool, beat, add chopped nuts.
